Recap: My 30th Birthday

I had a milestone birthday there recently - the big 3-0, and it's safe to say it was one of my favourites yet.

I've never really been a fan of celebrating my birthday - there's a bit of an age gap between myself and Shane and I hate that with every birthday it means the gap widens between us for six months until it's his birthday.
Silly, I know, but it's a little thing that annoys me (and that he loves)!

My birthday celebrations actually started two days early this year. I came home to find that Shane had been very busy. He had candles lighting all through the house, down the hallway and there was a sign on our bedroom door. He had gone off and got 30 balloons, printed out 30 pictures of us and hung them all over our bedroom. It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me! I knew how much money we needed to save as we're still doing up the house, so I had actually told him to skip the presents this year. This was his way of getting around that.

I was woken up on the morning of my birthday with another surprise - a bottle of the perfume that I had worn on our wedding day, and the sweetest message in a birthday card. Again, nothing too extravagant, but such a thoughtful gesture.

That night, I got dressed up and headed out with friends, my sisters and some of Shane's family for a few drinks in one of the local pubs. It wasn't anything too big, just a few drinks with some of the people must important to me. Shane also completely surprised me by bringing in a cake which he had gotten a cousin of his to make. It was amazing - he had even got the fillings of the cakes in the fillings that our wedding cake had been in, red velvet for the larger cake and chocolate cake for the smaller one.

Unfortunately, I don't have too many photographs from the night out itself, but I think that speaks volumes. Normally I always have my phone in my hand ready to snap away (as you can see by the picture above), but I just had too much fun with everyone, and catching up with friends who had travelled hours out of the way to be there so the phone went into my bag and stayed there for the night.

A great birthday week all round!
