Christmas Fair at The Old Yard

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas... and so the song goes.

 Last year was the first year we decided to visit the Christmas Fair which was held at The Old Yard in Castledermot, Co. Kildare and it really was such a beautiful experience that when I saw it been advertised again this year, I knew we'd have to pop on over for a visit.

They were blessed with the weather this year, as last year there had been freezing fog around this time, and we had found it quite difficult to make our way there on the slippy roads. No such problems this year -  we headed there Sunday evening, and it was such a mild evening to be walking around the place - we didn't even need our gloves.

The first thing you see when you get to the venue is the abundance of fairy lights which are strung up everywhere. They're making me feel quite jealous of the lack of twinkly lights we have at our own house, so we might have to pick up some over the next few weeks.

You're greeted with a choice of festive hot drinks to walk around with and I went for the spiced apple which, to be honest, I'd been thinking about since I saw the advertisement last month. I'm going to have to try and source a recipe for it to have over the next few weeks - it's such a warming treat!

They have a number of stalls around the yard, full of little delights in every corner and quite different from the wares you see at normal Christmas fairs.

 {The cutest cards!}

{Some belljar inspiration}

 I was delighted to finally get my hands on a Dundee marmalade jar - something I'd been on the look out for for ages. Now to get some pine cones or candy canes in it and decorate it up for Christmas.

We wandered around for about an hour and a half, and finished off our evening with a chocolate filled crepe, warming ourselves beside the fire before calling it a night.

Not only did I come away with some lovely bits and pieces for the house, and inspiration on decorations that could be made for the home and the garden, I also came away feeling just so festive. I don't know if it was the twinkly lights, or the Christmas songs been played over the tannoy or the many Christmas trees dotted around the place but I feel about ten times more ready for the holiday season now.

Just a few weekends left, and I am definitely getting into the Christmas mood!
